L’Ombre Bleue’s Philosophy
Formerly a farmhouse (for close to two centuries) typical of the Brittany region, l’Ombre Bleue has lost nothing of its olden-day charm. It seduces visitors with its atmosphere, its authenticity and the well-being it radiates. Each and every corner is full of stories and secrets just waiting to be discovered.
The garden, at 50m2 (540 ft2), is the perfect size, and full of charm. More English than French, being informal and somewhat untamed, the garden features mostly flowers, especially roses, which your hostess Catherine takes much delight in, as well as a splendid wisteria covering the house.
For some, the garden forms merely a passage between your room and the kitchen, but for many, it represents a place for rest and relaxation, for reading, and for contemplation of the birds that make it their home, the roses and other seasonal flowers. It’s also an ideal spot for an aperitif or enjoying dinner or breakfast on a beautiful spring or summer’s day.
The kitchen, or Catherine’s ‘lair’, is where Catherine spends a great part of her time, concocting delicious meals from secret recipes. A kitchen not unlike Monet’s at Giverny, with its yellow and blue tones, Catherine’s kitchen, with its Godin wood-burning stove, its antique convent table and its piano – so pleasant when guests unveil their musical talents – is a kitchen to sweep you back to the good old days. You can breakfast here, or savour Catherine’s culinary talents during a wonderful evening around the table d’hôtes.
The living room
The living room, with its cathedral ceiling, books and beautiful antique fireplace is situated in the main house and is available for your use, whatever you desire: enjoying a candlelit dinner for two in front of the fire, sipping cocktails in romantic privacy, finding inspiration for work, or simply perusing one of the many books at your disposal.
You won’t find a single review that does not mention Catherine’s friendliness, generosity or benevolence – your hostess lives in perfect harmony with her home. She knows how to meet your expectations and whether you wish her to be very ‘present’ or very discreet. According to some, Catherine is simply ‘incredible’, for others, she’s ‘exceptional’, but to all, she is unique. You will find nourishment not only in her gastronomic delights but also in her smile and her infectious cheerfulness. Whatever the reason for your visit, she will help you to recharge your batteries. It’s easy to see that l’Ombre Bleue is not only a home full of character but also, and above all, is the home of an exceptional person, one whom one is fortunate to come across at least once in life.
Catherine’s favourite saying is: ‘If you want to find happiness, take time for the most fleeting pleasures.’
